On 9/9/23 at approximately 2:40pm a call over the radio from fire crews working to extinguish hot spots from a previous night's fire on HWY 75 @ Camp Coyote rd. was broadcast stating they saw a plume of smoke that was quickly growing in the distance to the southwest of their position.
Fire crews were dispatched from Huntsville Fire and Crabbs Prairie Fire to deploy drones and they also requested assistance from Texas Forest Service to help locate where the smoke was coming from. After a short time, crews determined that the smoke was coming from the area of the Gibbs Fire off FM 3179 and SH 30. Drones were launched by fire crews and a plane flew overhead. It was determined that the fire had gotten out of containment and resources were quickly dispatched to begin assessing and resolving the breach of containment.
Multiple crews from departments all over the county and even some out of county were called in to assist with getting the fire back under control and contained again.
As of approximately 10pm on 9/9/23 the fire was at 90% containment and had grown approximately 100 acres more than what it was previously bringing it to 435 acres. All local crews were released and placed back in service. Texas Forest Service has remained on scene to monitor the situation and continue with containment measures.
On 9/10/23 TFS crews are still on scene working the fire and continuing containment measures.
A photo sent in from Dawn Baumbach on Facebook shows the fire out of containment that was picked up on a game camera.
